Friends of Kiawah
On June 20, the Friends of Kiawah River took a group of 40 kayakers down the Kiawah River, launching from Mingo Point and ending at Captain Sam’s Spit. The trip concluded with pulled pork barbeque and Johns Island tomato sandwiches at Rosebank Farms. For more information about the Friends of Kiawah River, visit www.kiawahriver.org.
The Battle of Charleston
The fifth annual battle of Charleston took place on April 18 & 19 2009 at Legare Farms on Johns Island. It featured the original three inch bronze rifled cannon “Annie Lee” which was built in May of 1862. The battle was a combination of several battles that took place on the sea islands during the civil war.
Push Up
Four teams participated in order to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club. 1st place was the Shaping Concepts, 2nd place was the Team Primetime Fitness, 3rd place was the Team College of Charleston, and 4th place was the Team Fantastic Five. Congratulations to all of those that participated.
Sea turtle release on Isle of Palms
Almost 2 years in the South Carolina Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Hospital and rehabilitation expenses in excess of $22,000, DeBordieu, a female loggerhead (Caretta caretta) sea turtle ready for mating season was released on Saturday, May 2, at the Isle of Palms (IOP) County Park at 10am.
