Hi, I’m Josie, and I am definitely a lucky dog. I’m finally reunited with my favorite human; however, I can’t really let her know that because, well, I’m not the mooshy, lick-you-in-the-face, cuddle-on-the-couch type of dog.
My happiness can be summarized in three words: Mom, food, and my favorite four letters, B-A-L-L. I live in a spelling household since saying that word out loud sends me into spasms!
When I first arrived, one of my brothers was a retriever, and he taught me the simplicity of tennis balls and the fun you could have with them. I can’t really hear or see anymore unless it’s neon, round, and bounces—then my youth is restored. My version of retrieving is a little unique: Mom throws the ball, I run as fast as I can to get it, then I wait for her to come to me and throw it again. Bonus fun for Mom is, if I’m ready to go home, I’ll pick it up and run in that direction so she chases me. Retrieving is so fun.
What’s waiting for me at the house is another favorite thing: food! This is where I show off my mad dancing skills. Name it, I’m doing it when it’s time to chow: spinning, jumping, twirling, twerking, barking, swinging, twisting—yes, all of the above. And oh, I do all of that while I’m talking! I am just so excited to eat! Then, POOF, it’s gone. I’ve blacked out as I’ve inhaled my food without chewing. Wait, did I actually eat?
Then we go on bike rides. Those are thrilling! My ears flap in the wind while my tongue hangs out of my smile. And car rides! Those are fun too. I like to sit on the console for the best view. Watching Mom paint is therapeutic, at least until I get bored and go back to sleep in my custom-designed laundry basket.
I’ve spent 16 years in my little bunny body, and since being reunited with my mom, I feel like I’ll outlive her because she brings me so much love and companionship. I’ve hit my stride with Mom by my side for my golden years. I may not give puppy kisses and cuddles, but life is way better now with Mom on the island.
