Little Turtle's Kiawah Island Journey
“Little Turtle’s Kiawah Island Journey” by Deanna Cochran and Patty Wolford tells the story of one little turtle hatchling who makes a wrong turn following a late evening ‘turtle boil’ on the beach of Kiawah Island. When she discovers that she is lost and cannot find her home, she befriends a Snowy Egret who helps her search high and low, hoping to find where she belongs. On their journey, Little Turtle and Snowy Egret meet other island animals and learn about their homes and habitats. This beautifully illustrated story teaches children and adults alike about the coastal wildlife and habitats throughout Little Turtle’s journey. Cochran is a retired elementary school teacher. She enjoys capturing photographs of wildlife to paint on canvas or copper. The joy in watching island animals with her grandchildren inspired her to co-author this book. She currently lives on Kiawah Island with her husband, Ernie. Wolford discovered the abundance of wildlife and natural beauty of Kiawah Island when she moved to South Carolina from the Midwest. She combined her art background and love of animals to co-author this book. Wolford and her husband treasure their years spent living on Kiawah Island.
