The City of Isle of Palms will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, May 22 at 5 pm at the Recreation Center- 24 28th Avenue to share details and answer questions regarding a proposed shoal management project at the north end of the island.
The project would include harvesting sand from an incoming shoal or from accretional areas between 44th and 53rd Avenue if the shoal is not accessible and recycling the sand to erosional areas upstream as part of a system-wide sediment management plan.
This project provides an interim solution to erosional issues and prolongs the life of large-scale nourishments, providing substantial cost savings. If the permits are issued, construction is anticipated to begin end of 2024, early 2025.
