Chief Kevin Cornett with the Isle of Palms Police Department reported, "Around 5:20 pm on Friday April 7th, the beach was filled with tourists and there was a large crowd of individuals who were taking place in 'Senior Skip Day.' Within that group of high school seniors, a couple altercations took place, and several shots were fired. We know 6 individuals were shot. Most of those injured were in their teens, and a female in her mid-30's was also victim to the fight that broke out. Several agencies came to assist us. There has been an outpouring of support - federal and state officials came out to assist us. We shut the beach down from Sea Cabins to the County Park."
This is a developing story and the investigation is on-going. Please check back for details.
